The Stripe Edit – Summer Basics
One of my favourite (and expensive) spare time hobbies include shopping. I enjoy finding the best deals and getting the most value out of the bucks I spend. In the process of scouting through the mountain of jeans and sifting through cardigan avenue, I end up figuring out the latest style trends, with my usual pick being pieces that are trendy yet still timeless and easy to put together for various occasions.
Most brands are currently showcasing their Summer twenty-twenty-four collection (with some brands closing out their spring collection with massive sales that feature very similar pieces). I’m seeing plenty of colour, linen – surprisingly more cotton than linens this time, and loads of patterns – gingham (which I adore), crotchet (Mango launched a huge collection on crotchets alone)….’florals for summer, groundbreaking!’…but most of all – stripes. Colourful stripes! I’m sensing a retro + 60’s feel to it.
I’ve put together The Stripe Edit featuring thirty-one pieces that I feel are casual & comfy basics for everyday wear that can easily be elevated when paired with the right accessories. If you follow my Instagram, you’d know that I am very high/low and love mixing and matching luxury bags and sunglasses with affordable high street brands. My current favourites are H&M and Mango. I also get my structured pieces from COS and Massimo Dutti every now and then, and I’ve since been shopping aplenty from local Malaysian brands like Petit Moi (a staple favourite), Saoi, Motherchuckers and Whimsigirl. I get my dose of international clothing brands that aren’t available in the country through Zalora – Chancery (dresses galore!) and Seasalt Cornwall are my top two brands at the moment.
I want the blog to reflect what I would wear, though in the spirit of inclusivity I did include some maternity-friendly pieces and colours that I stray away from like oranges that would look amazing on someone else. I tend to go the comfy, colourful & playful route for day-to-day basics but switch it up with darker shades, sexy silhouettes and luxurious fabrics when it comes to dinners – an edit for another time.
The Stripe Edit – Summer Basics
MYR 249
A recent addition to my wardrobe and I cannot wait to style this. The shorts caught my eye at first and would be perfect for grocery runs or as a coverup for pool days.
Sizes S/M are sold out online but I’m sure they’re still in stock in their store. Also available in three other colours.
Whimsigirl – Favourite Oversized Shirt in Cherry Stripe
MYR 208
Sold out online but try hitting up their store in Bangsar Village or click ‘Notify Me When Available’. I love the entire stripe collection. There’s so many colours to choose from. I usually style my oversized shirts as a coverup but this one looks so good just as it is with a pair of dark blue wide-leg jeans.
Available in five other colours – Notting Hill & Pink Melon Stripe are my favourites. Definitely in my cart.
Jimmy Key – Long Sleeve Striped Cardigan
RM 223.90 (Currently 30% off)
Came across this brand through Zalora and instantly fell in love with their pieces. They make amazing skirts too.
This is such a different take on stripes and is structured making it perfect for work. The orange makes it wearable for autumn if you’re travelling later this year.
We love nothing more than pieces that can be reworn and restyled through different seasons.
ShopHanya – Sammy Pants in Stripes
MYR 189
The fact that it’s made out of airy blend has got me sold, and the colours are a work of art. If you can carry a completely vibrant look, pair it with the Gabby top in Soft Butter (pictured).
Otherwise, I would simply style it with a black tank top for a weekend brunch and top it up with heels and gold jewellery.
Seasalt Cornwall – Yellow Copseland T-shirt Stripe
MYR 185
A new find. Absolutely love this brand – very Nantucket meets Cape Cod (old money casual)
I’ve been loving striped t-shirts. They give out such a fun and quirky vibe and can easily be styled with a blazer to dress it up.
Pro tip: Know your colours and don’t get a colour that’s too overpowering, or conversely, can wash you out.
Petit Moi – Victor Mariniere in Ballerina
MYR 229
Pink, stripes, pearls and a bow? Consider me sold.
I’m so over the beige aesthetic/ minimalist look. This one feels preppy meets French chic and I would wear it to a nice brunch, a day with family or even to dinner by pairing it with a black satin skirt.
I trust Petit Moi with my heart and have invested in so many pieces. In my cart!
MYR 65 (Such a steal deal for COS!)
I’m not one for funky socks. I generally don’t wear socks and barely wear sneakers, but my husband, E, does and loves adding a fun moment to his power suit & tie.
Love the colour.
Hey Motherchuckers – Hunter Green Striped Long Sleeve Tee
MYR 248
Hey Motherchuckers does edgy apparels so well and the quality is impeccable. I purchased the waffle set in blueberry last year and it’s still one of my best purchases ever.
If you want an edgier take on stripes that isn’t the usual black or white, this is a perfect choice. Also comes in one other colour – Raspberry Martini.
Just hit ‘Add to Bag’ as I was typing this and I cannot wait to style this with my favourite blue jeans.
MYR 100
A versatile basic piece that can be styled up with the right accessories. If I could get everything COS, I would…at the right price. The quality is impeccable.
In my cart.
MYR 229
I love Petit Moi and this shirt exudes feminine grace. They make some of the most beautiful necklines and collars – like this oversized lapel with embroidery.
if you’re looking for a feminine piece this summer, look no further. I would pair this with a satin skirt or a white mini bubble skirt, even denim.
Massimo Dutti – Sleeveless Open Knit Top
MYR 99 (amazing deal)
Quite disappointed in Massimo Dutti lately. It feels very dark and edgy, even their summer pieces. I’m not seeing as many vibrant prints as the last couple of years.
Not your typical stripes, but found this top and love the colour. I’d pair this with an oversized striped trousers.
United Colours of Benetton – Striped T-shirt with Boat Neck
MYR 209.90 (40% off)
Can’t go wrong with an oversized T-shirt, especially one that comes in a boat neck. If you’re looking for something structured, this is a nice one that is work-friendly when paired with oversized jeans or trousers for casual Fridays.
MYR 99.90 (currently 50% off)
Sweaters are such a necessity even during the summer. This is such a fun piece to drape around your shoulders when you have a full black or white outfit. Adds a nice pop of colour without taking too big of a risk!
Chuck’s – Sparkling Water Double Waistband Pants
RM 258
These are super cute. I’ve seen striped pants being styled with New Balance shoes, a white t-shirt and a sweater paired with the Sofia Richie bun, and it’s such an easy way to elevate pants like these.
Also adore the double waistband + tag!
Seasalt Cornwall – Multi Copseland T-shirt Stripe
RM 185
I said it once and I’ll say it again. I’m so happy to have come across this brand. They have aplenty of stripe options and style them so well, exuding classy Nantucket vibes.
Mango – Striped Combined Polo Shirt
MYR 89.90 (55% off!)
I’m not sure how I feel about it being combined. I usually stray far away from anything combined but it doesn’t look it, which makes it ok.
Nineties-Rugby collared t-shirts are making a comeback. I don’t have one yet
Petit Moi – Amore Cardigan in Classic Navy
MYR 289
This is such a classic navy and white striped cardigan. I love the Petit Moi detail that adds a feminine flair to it.
Definitely getting this. A versatile way to add stripes into the closet.
MYR 139 (40% off)
An easy day to night piece. Love this!
I’d switch it up from day to night with a sparkly pair of stilettos and a vintage clutch.
MYR 239 (34% off)
I wouldn’t be able to pull this off. But if this is your vibe, by all means the runway is yours.
Seasalt Cornwall – Purple Sailor Top
MYR 195
Another classic. Also an easy way to incorporate stripes into the wardrobe but still going the elegant route and playing it safe.
Mango – Polo shirt 100% Cotton Stripes
MYR 199 (33% off)
What’d I say about rugby t-shirts. L-O-V-E.
I’m waiting for this to come back in stock and would style it exactly like the ad. Take my money!
& Other Stories – Acme Lurex Rib Socks
MYR 45
Amazing deal for & Other Stories. Also, green pair of socks are so versatile. They go with white, brown, blues, pink – everything!
Mango – Striped Dress Bare Shoulders
MYR 189
Already have this hanging in my wardrobe. It has the sexiest silhouette and is made out of a shiny-ish cotton fabric, all while still being very day-time friendly.
Waiting for a pleasant brunch to wear this. Imagine holding a glass of mimosa with this. Gorgeous!
MYR 54.95
Comes in three colours – striped blue, beige and pink. Makes for a comfy pyjamas as well as a day look when combined with the right sneakers and jacket.
Whimsigirl – Brunch Pants in Navy Stripes
MYR 188
I gasped when I saw this set. I’ve never seen anything like it at this price point, such a good deal. Despite being oversized, it feels structured. I would totally wear it as a set and button up all the way. Paired with a sleek bun, it evokes boss lady.
H&M – Cotton Boxer Style Shorts
MYR 54.95
Boxer style shorts are in. I wouldn’t be able to pull this off. But if you had the personality for it, I think it’s a great buy. Love the pastel pink.
Also comes in dusty blue stripes. Both are equally amazing.
H&M – MAMA Linen Blend Tunic Dress
MYR 69 (54% off)
We have something for the mama’s as well. All about inclusivity here.
Love this linen blend wrap dress that’s loose fitting and airy. If you want to go the stripes route but don’t want to go full vibrant, this is a safe pick.
Lacoste – Women’s Loose Fit Cotton Striped Jersey T-shirt
MYR 307.30 (a steal of a deal for Lacoste!)
The husband has a full Lacoste polo t-shirt collection and I’m contemplating jumping on the bandwagon. But these striped t-shirts, I love.
Perfect for the ladies out there who love a little logo moment and only shop classics. I saw a similar t-shirt with dusty blue stripes instead and might pull the trigger on that.
MYR 99.95
Has been in my cart for the last two months, and I’m contemplating pulling the trigger.
I’m still figuring out how to style it, especially since it is short sleeves – not very on brand with me.
But if you can pull this off, get the full set and style it with a white tank top, a cap, knee socks and a pair of sneakers.
MYR 59 (61% off!!)
Sadly these are sold out in almost every size. I would keep an eye open for a restock. Makes the perfect outfit when paired with a white t-shirt or white linen shirt.
Mango – Printed Stripe T-Shirt
MYR 99.90
I have this and adore the colour. Does so much at adding radiance to my face. It does run a little small, I’d recommend sizing up by two sizes for an oversized fit.
Paired it with gold earrings and a white maxi skirt – instant summer outfit.
